Lamu is a fascinating blend of contrasts! This vibrant destination is deeply rooted in Muslim traditions, with the melodic call to prayer echoing through the air five times a day. Guests are warmly invited to embrace the local culture by dressing modestly, covering shoulders and knees, and enjoying alcohol discreetly. Despite these cultural nuances, Lamu flourishes as a bustling hub for tourists from Europe and across Africa, making it an exciting and diverse place to explore!

We're spending our time at a vacation home owned by a German lady who's lived most of her life in Africa (talk about contrasts!). My room has a bed with a floating rack above it for mosquito netting. The bathroom has this open waterfall shower that makes you feel like you're rinsing off outdoors. At night, the staff comes by to drop the mosquito netting, and I slept like a baby in my little cocoon. My room also has a balcony with a view of the Indian Ocean. I kept the balcony doors open all night to let the trade winds naturally cool the room.
We sipped cocktails atop our humble abode, feeling like rooftop royalty, basking in the golden glow of the sunset! The excitement bubbled over as we made our way to the Peponi hotel for dinner, where culinary magic awaited. My fish tacos? Oh, they were a revelation! A far cry from the Tex-Mex delights back home, I was met with an extravagant mountain of fresh crabmeat, all snugly wrapped in a seafood sleeping bag of pure bliss! As the day drew to a close, I nestled into my own mosquito-netted cocoon, dreaming of emerging as a vibrant, creative butterfly ready to take on the world!
